A definitive guide to verifying digital content for emergency coverage

We all look forward to New Years Eve to celebrate 2014, but there’s another reason I’d like it to be next year already. In January, the Verification Handbook will be available on the Internet (for free!). It’s said to be the definitive guide to verifying digital content for emergency coverage.

Authored by leading journalists from the BBC, Storyful, ABC, Digital First Media and other verification experts, the Verification Handbook is a groundbreaking new resource for journalists and aid providers. It provides the tools, techniques and step-by-step guidelines for how to deal with user-generated content (UGC) during emergencies.

In my opinion, this is a guide that every journalist should read. These days, I sense a lot of complaining about the media, so I hope that will be less when journalists take the Verification Handbook into account.

From January on, you can download the PDF on the website from the Verification Handbook itself.
